Why Should You Get Your iPhone Unlocked?

If you paid for a computer, should you to have control of it? That means be able to install Windows XP on your system instead of Windows Vista or the new Windows 7 operating system.

That goes with the Intel-based Macs as well.

Well then if you paid for your iPhone, you should be able to control what software you installed in your phone as well. That goes with all the other cell phones as well.

Basically, that's the reason why you should get your iphone unlocked. Get control of what software you can put on your iPhone.

I have a regular contract with my iPhone, but since I needed to use it while I'm in the Philippines, I needed to get it unlocked so that I can use any carrier, such as Smart, Globe, or Sun. It took me about a week to get it unlocked until a major release from http://repo666.blacksn0w.com on November 4, 2009, thanks to GeoHot. This site has blackra1n RC3, the program that allows you to unlock the 3.1.2 - 05.11.07 versions of the OS and baseband respectively.

I was able to get my iPhone unlocked with the following installed:

iPhone OS 3.1.2
baseband 05.11.07

You can do a update to these versions through iTunes - make sure you have the latest versions of this program. That's what I did.

pwnage 3.1.4 - this program, developed by the iPhone-dev-team, allows you to create a backup of your iPhone OS 3.1.2 with some of the Cydia programs installed. Make sure you have a fast internet connection downloading the required files will be a challenge. (Visit this site to download Pwnage 3.1.4). You then use iTunes to restore the iPhone OS with Cydia installed.

Go to blackra1n.com to download the program that jailbreaks your iPhone 3.1.2. Both the Windows and Mac versions are available. I used the Mac version to jailbreak my iPhone. You can simply follow the instructions on the software program on their site. Once you execute the blackra1n program on your system and you see a button that says "Make it ra1n", the program does its thing and then it will reboot your iPhone.

Then you go to a site that a high speed wireless connection. You will run the Cydia program and go to the "Manage" icon on the bottom of your iPhone.

You will see "Packages", "Sources", and "Storage". You choose "Sources", tap the "Edit" button on the top right corner, tap the "Add" button on the top left, the you will add "repo666.ultrasn0w.com" and let the update run.

Once the update is completed, it will reload the Cydia program, and go back to the "Manage" icon. You will see the "blacksn0w" program, which is from blackra1n.com. This is Geohot's unlock for the iPhone 3G(S) and install it. So you will tap the "Install" button on the top right of your phone, and it will ask you to confirm. You then tap the "Confirm" button and the install process commences. Once you successfully installed it, it will reboot your iPhone and ...

Your iPhone is Unlocked!!! Congratulations. You should be able to use any carrier. I use both the Smart and Globe carriers.

You should see the Globe on the top of your newly unlocked iPhone. Have fun.
